License Plate Recognition, aka; LPR, ALPR, is a technology that uses optical character recognition on images to read license plates to gather vehicle location data. LPR is used by the automobile repossession industry and police departments around the world. LPR is also used for electronic toll collection on pay-per-use roads and bridges.
LPR can be used to store the images captured by the mounted cameras and is stored on databases for later use as well as in the field for immediate identification of vehicles sought for repossession or crime investigations. Common LPR companies in teh repossession industry include DRN, MVTRAC and PlateLocate.
